Artist Statement

The recent millennium and advances in contemporary technologies such as the Internet and Microbiology have introduced a new equation into the existence of man... In just the last 25 years, we have made more advances and caused more changes to the earth and our surrounding than evolution did over millions of years of geologic time.

In my work, I am trying to represent this "evolution," a metamorphosis of the physical dimension in which we exist into the numeric dimension of the digital world. My most recent works deal with the subject of cyberspace contrasted with the physical world.

The materials of my pieces, artifacts of both the past and present, radiators and computer boards, combined with organic wood forms elude to a natural metamorphosis of both the physical and cyber worlds. The materials of my works themselves, adapting and resulting into a new hybrid form: nature and technology becoming one.

The digital world is quickly taking over the physical world and I, as a sculptor, am struggling to adapt to my role as an artist. Our world is ever shrinking as it is being consumed by the rapid growth of digital technology, transforming the environments in which we work and live.

Glass Disc American Stores, 1996-97
Collaboration: Cordell Taylor, Willie Littig, Phillips Associates, Salt Lake City, Utah

The American Stores walkway commission created a sculptural 2nd floor pedestrian walk-over bridge that transports people moving from the parking garage to the office tower. It was designed with the intent to inform the viewer about passage and space, and to be a strong sculptural element for the downtown community.
