They Have an Agenda &
the Cirkus is Their Medium

Human fire eaters, yogic feats rarely imagined, proof of frogs falling from the sky, alleged Moorish blessing oils -- all under one roof and on four wheels! The travelling bookmobile roadshow is tapping into an age-old nomadic tradition, one that is at the roots of culture and life -- the carnival, found in sideshows, circuses, and fairs all across the world.

Autonomedia & the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus
have come together to present you a
carnival of oddities and literary delights.

The maiden voyage of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus and Autonomadic Bookmobile Roadshow was in 1995. At that point it was Kinko, Philomena, and a handtruck carrying 2 cases of Autonomedia books. In 1997, the Roadshow was six people, a van and an 8ft utility trailer carrying cirkus props and 15 cases of small press books and zines. And now as the 1998 tour nears, the Roadshow is hoping for an actual bookmobile that will be filled with wall to wall books and zines.

In an age where Barnes and Noble have put nearly every small bookstore out of business, and Ringling Brothers seems to be the only circus that people can name, the Bindlestiffs and Autonomedia provide the alternative: the radical bookmobile roadshow.

Over 200 zine and book titles created by small and independent publishers can be found at the book table. Collecting zines, tapes, pamphlets, posters and books all across the nation, the Roadshow is spreading them in its wake. Some of the most notorious of zinesters, smutsters, and small presses have already joined the Caravan. Porn Free, Dr. Ducky DooLittle, Alley Publications, Shocked and Amazed,.... The bookmobile makes hard-to-find information and literature available. The nomadic wanderings of the bookmobile are helping to connect bookshops, info centers, and various radical spaces. Are you beginning to fret It is an age in which Barnes and Noble and Ringling Brothers are attempting to take control of our minds.

So if you are:

  • Tired of depression and reading the same trash novels again and again
  • Finding yourself vandalizing Barnes and Noble for no apparent reason
  • Preparing to firebomb monotonous poetry slams

We have the cure for you.
Just step
right up and get a taste
of the radical to get the juices flowing.
